Rain go away. Ryder Cup to be played on Monday
October 3rd 2010 11:49
The Ryder Cup is heading for the first Monday finish in its 83-year history.
Rain pounded the Celtic Manor early Sunday morning and created small rivers running down some of the fairways. The matches already were seven hours behind because of a waterlogged course at the start of the Ryder Cup.
Officials say they expect play to begin at 1:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. ET) on Sunday.
Still to come are the six team matches that were halted on the front nine by darkness. The Americans have a 6-4 lead, although Europe was leading in all six of the suspended matches.
Tournament officials announced those six matches will be the only ones played Sunday. All 12 singles matches will begin at 9:05 a.m. local time (4:05 a.m. ET) on Monday.
