Ryan Palmer wins in Hawaii

Ryan Palmer outlasted Robert Allenby, Steve Stricker and Retief Goosen to win the Sony Open by one stroke.

Palmer shot rounds of 65-66-68-66 to win the tournament with a 15 under total. Allenby finished one back with Stricker two back and Goosen shooting a final round 62 to finish three back.

Seven rookies made the first cut in the first full field event on the 2010 schedule. Troy Merritt was the low rookie with a 6 under total score.


Blake Adams, Graham DeLaet, Martin Flores Alex Prugh, Jared Turner and Brian Stuard also made the cut as rookies.

Sixteen rookies tried to make the cut in their first tournament of the season. Seven got the job done making the cut in the Sony Open.

Alex Prugh was at 1 over after two rounds. Prugh who attended University of Washington is from Spokane, Washington. He is 25 years of age.

Martin Flores was even after two rounds. Flores attended the University of Oklahoma and is from Fort Worth, Texas. He is 27 years of age.


Jerod Turner was even after two rounds.Turner attended Weatherford College and is from Oak Harbor, Washington. He is 34 years of age.

Brian Stuard was 1 under after two rounds. Stuard attended Oakland College and is from Jackson, Michigan. He is 27 years of age.

Blake Adams was 4 under after two rounds. Adams attended Georgia Southern and is from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He is 34 years of age.

Graham DeLaet was 4 under after two rounds. DeLaet attended Boise State University and is from Canada. He is 27 years of age.

Troy Merritt was 4 under after two rounds. Merritt attended Boise State University and is from Osaga, Iowa. He is 24 years of age.

These seven rookies will have a step up on the other 13 rookies this year on the PGA Tour vying for Rookie of the Year award.

Sony Open Round 1 Recap

Well the season is here. The Sony Open started yesterday with the first full field of the 2010 season.

Six players are tied for first after shooting a 5 under 65 to start the tournament. Ryan Palmer, Zach Johnson, Davis Love III, Troy Merritt, Robert Allenby and John Merrick all had a great first day at the Sony Open. These players can not breath because 10 players are sitting only one stroke back at 4 under.

Troy Merritt a rookie on the tour and starting his first event ever looked great. Merritt one of 20 rookies on the tour this year is looking to make a big impact on the tour.

John Daly shot a 3 over 73 in his first round. Daly looking great didn't fair well on the course and is in a fight to make the cut.

Rickie Flower another rookie who has got all the media coverage so far this season struggled in his first round shooting a 75.
