Neil Schietekat fired a first round 62 to take a one shot lead over five players. Schietekat a local looked great in his home tournament. Schietekat is being chased by one of the best fields on the young European PGA Tour schedule so far.
Charl Schwartzel, Darren Clarke, David Lynn, Jbe Kruger and Simon Khan are all one stroke behind after opening round 63s.
Eight players in the top 100 of the world rankings are in this tournament.
