Kuchar's 67 leads at PGA

Matt Kuchar, the former U.S. Amateur champ who has surged into the top 10 on the PGA Tour in recent months, has the lead through 18 holes of the fog-delayed PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
Kuchar finished his first round at 5 under, thanks to a birdie at the par-4 sixth hole (the 15th hole of the round -- and first of the day) on Friday. That's one shot better than Bubba Watson and Francesco Molinari -- both of whom finished their rounds on Thursday.
Ernie Els, who was 4 under when play was suspended Thursday due to darkness, remained there on Friday to shoot an opening-round 68. Seung Yul Noh of South Korea birdied the par-4 eighth hole (his 17th) and also shot 68.
Nick Watney, who was 4 under when play was halted, made two bogeys and a birdie to shoot 69.
Also at 3 under are Jason Day, Ryan Moore and Charles Howell III, who all finished Thursday, along with Zach Johnson, who finished his first round on Friday morning.
Simon Kahn of England finished his opening round Friday afternoon at 3 under and will tee off for his second round at 2:10 p.m. ET.
Angel Cabrera was also at 4 under through 16 holes of his first round, but made a triple bogey at the par-3 17th hole to fall out of contention.
Kuchar had never finished higher than 48th as a professional in a major before this year. But after winning his first PGA Tour event since 2002 at Turning Stone last fall, he tied for 25th in the Masters, tied for sixth at the U.S. Open and tied for 27th at the Open Championship at St. Andrews.
Kuchar came into the PGA Championship ninth in the FedEx Cup points standings and seventh in the Ryder Cup team standings. He missed the cut in last year's PGA -- the first time he'd played in the event since 2002.
Play resumed Friday at 10:40 a.m. ET after fog again forced a delay. However, a line of thunderstorms was headed toward Whistling Straits.
The second round began at 12:10 p.m. ET. Kuchar is back on the course, as are Els and Noh.
Watson and Molinari have 6:05 p.m. ET times.
Tiger Woods, who shot an opening-round 71, has a 6:45 p.m. ET tee time.
Phil Mickelson finished his first round at 1 over 73.
Wisconsin native Steve Stricker shot 72 and is at even par. Stricker is currently fourth in the World Golf Rankings, two spots behind Mickelson. Woods remains No. 1.
